First edition of InsuResilience Newsletter

Dear reader,

With the 23rd Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC (COP23) coming to its end, the InsuResilience Secretariat is delighted to introduce you to the first edition of the InsuResilience newsletter.

We have come a long way since InsuResilience started off as the G7 initiative on climate risk insurance, initiated with the goal of expanding insurance coverage to protect the poor and vulnerable against the adverse impacts of climate change. Most recently, the G20 have welcomed the creation of a “Global Partnership for Climate and Disaster Risk Finance and Insurance Solutions”, which was officially launched in the COP23 Presidency Event on November 14. The V20 has also called for stronger collaboration on risk finance and insurance mechanisms in 2017.

The international community is increasingly recognising that we need a paradigm shift towards more preparedness and rapid action in response to increasing climate and disaster risks. The new InsuResilience Global Partnership aims to enable more timely and reliable post-disaster response through climate and disaster risk finance and insurance solutions. We have to act now and bring together all relevant partners from governments, civil society, private sector and international organizations in a joint effort to develop solutions and implement them in time as climate change is proceeding fast.

With a view to this year’s COP Presidency Fiji, this first edition of the InsuResilience newsletter has a special focus on small island states, featuring an interview with Mr Ariff Ali, Governor of the Reserve Bank of Fiji and an article about the Caribbean Catastrophe Risk Insurance Facility (CCRIF). As a regular publication, the InsuResilience newsletter will continuously inform you about the most recent activities, news and events in the field of climate and disaster risk finance and insurance. Expert interviews and contributions from the InsuResilience partners and programs will round off the package.

We hope you enjoy our newsletter – stay tuned for the next editions!

Kind regards,
Your InsuResilience Secretariat
